“Graduates of excellence”

Every year Salt Lake Community College honors one student from each college with the Graduate of Excellence award. I produced these short documentaries to tell each student's story at graduation.

The students are chosen one month before graduation, creating a tight deadline to interview, film, and edit seven stories all while the subjects were in their busiest stretch of the semester. To solve this, I recorded interviews as audio only, which let me conduct them whenever and wherever the student was available. That freed me to shoot the visuals verité with them without needing to schedule a time for a formal sit down interview.
